In the United States midterm elections, which decide which party will control both chambers of Congress, Democrats have secured several significant victories. This improves their chances of winning a majority in the Senate, the upper chamber of Congress.
The political camp led by Republican President Donald Trump faces a serious challenge in the vote. The results are regarded as an assessment of Trump's second term in office, so they will shape both the governing party's position in Congress and the country's political situation going forward.
Vote counting continues
Final results are not yet known, as ballots are still being counted. Meanwhile, Trump has criticised the US television channel Fox News. The available information does not specify what exactly the president objected to.
