Ousted minister Uzulnieks apologizes for drunk driving

Reinis Uzulnieks, removed as welfare minister and expelled from the Latvian Farmers' Union, has apologized for driving under the influence. He was detained on September 12 with a breathalyzer reading exceeding three per mille.

Reinis Uzulnieks, who was removed from his post as welfare minister and expelled from the Latvian Farmers' Union, has publicly apologized for driving while intoxicated.

Detention and testing

Uzulnieks was detained on September 12. A breathalyzer test showed a reading exceeding three per mille of alcohol.

Public apology

In a brief statement posted on Facebook, Uzulnieks described the incident as a serious mistake that he himself deeply regrets.

As a result of the incident, he had already lost both his ministerial post and his membership in the Farmers' Union.
