US Family Series "7th Heaven" to Return in a New Version Tackling Today's Teen Issues
Almost 20 years after it ended, the US family drama "7th Heaven" is getting a new version. Producer and original cast member Jessica Biel says it will address the problems of modern families more openly.

The US family drama "7th Heaven", which ended its television run in 2007, is set to return in a new version. Actress Jessica Biel, who played Mary Camden in the original and is now involved in the new project as a producer, explained in an interview with the show "Collider Ladies Night" how the story is meant to be adapted for today's audiences.
The revival was first announced in May 2025.
About the original series
"7th Heaven" premiered in 1996. Over 11 seasons it followed the Camden family: Protestant minister Eric Camden, his wife Annie and their seven children, who faced the difficulties of growing up, family conflicts and life's trials. It was one of the biggest successes of the TV network The WB, with 243 episodes made in total. The series was also popular with Latvian viewers.
What the new version will cover
Biel said the new series will keep the essence of the original story but address current issues more directly. She named problems caused by technology, school, bullying, drugs and alcohol, and said she wants to approach these topics in a very realistic way.
The actress acknowledged that the original series also touched on difficult subjects, but its creators then had to follow stricter limits and carefully weigh what content audiences would accept. Today there are fewer such restrictions, she said.
At the same time, Biel wants to preserve what made the show special: family values, mutual support and the hope that a solution can be found even in hard situations. A mother of two and married to singer Justin Timberlake, she said it is often hard to find TV content the whole family can watch together.
Not a direct sequel
The new version will not directly continue the Camden family story. It will center on a different, diverse family, and the return of the original cast to the screen is not planned.
