LVM GEO mobile app and map browser restored after cyber incident

After a cybersecurity incident that affected the IT infrastructure of AS "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM) during the Līgo holidays, the mobile app "LVM GEO" and the map browser are available again. The apps now offer a wide range of background maps, information about forest compartments, LVM forest roads, tourist sites, as well as the State Land Service cadastre map and other popular data sources.

Due to the incident, LVM had disconnected several external and internal systems, including "LVM GEO", the map service system, and the hunting app "Mednis". The company cooperated with "Cert.lv" and other state authorities to mitigate the consequences. The State Police Cybercrime Prevention Unit launched its own investigation to determine the circumstances and identify the attacker.

LVM previously stated that it is not yet possible to determine exactly what information was leaked. According to the initial assessment, it was not high-risk data, but there is a possibility that a significant amount of information was compromised. The attacker demanded a ransom, but LVM announced that it would not negotiate.

"Cert.lv" emphasized that LVM-developed election system add-ons had already been handed over to the State Digital Development Agency, and the maintenance of the election infrastructure itself was not linked to LVM.
