Who in Kulbergs' government travels abroad most often

Since Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs' government began work, differences have emerged among ministers in how often they travel abroad on official business. Kulbergs himself and Defence Minister Raivis Melnis have each made four trips outside Latvia so far, the most of any cabinet member.

Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava (National Alliance) has traveled abroad three times. Economy Minister Viktors Valainis (Greens/Farmers Union), Justice Minister Edvards Smiltēns (United List) and Finance Minister Māris Kučinskis have each made two foreign trips.

Only one foreign trip each has been made by Welfare Minister Reinis Uzulnieks (Greens/Farmers Union), Transport Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (New Unity), Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri (New Unity) and Agriculture Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers Union).

Four ministers have not gone on any foreign trips yet: three from the National Alliance — Education and Science Minister Ilze Indriksone, Climate and Energy Minister Jānis Vitenbergs and Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis — along with United List's Edgars Tavars, minister for smart administration and regional development.

Kulbergs pledged a critical approach to travel

Upon taking office, Kulbergs said the need for ministers' foreign trips would be carefully assessed, stressing that not everyone should travel abroad indiscriminately. He said each trip should be evaluated critically to determine whether it is truly necessary and whether it helps fulfill goals set out in the government's declaration, adding that he would judge his own trips just as critically since every trip carries costs for the state.

Saeima confirmed Kulbergs as prime minister on May 28.
