Landfill Collapse in Guinea's Capital Conakry Leaves 30 Dead

A pile of waste at a landfill in Conakry, Guinea, collapsed after heavy overnight rainfall, burying nearby homes and killing at least 30 people.

A deadly incident struck Guinea's capital Conakry after a mound of waste at a local landfill gave way following heavy overnight rains.

The collapsing waste engulfed homes situated near the site, leaving residents little chance to escape the sudden disaster.

At least 30 people are confirmed dead as a result of the collapse, according to reports from the scene. The heavy rainfall is believed to have destabilized the accumulated waste, causing it to give way onto the surrounding residential area.
