The Atlanta Hawks have exercised their option to extend the contract of guard C.J. McCollum, who joined the team in January via a trade that sent longtime franchise leader Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. The two sides have agreed to a one-year deal worth $21 million.

McCollum, who turned 34 in January, immediately became one of the Hawks' top performers after his arrival. In 41 regular-season games, he averaged 18.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. With McCollum, Atlanta reached the NBA playoffs, where they lost in six games in the first round to the eventual champion New York Knicks. In Game 3 of the series, McCollum hit the game-winning shot, giving the Hawks a 2-1 series lead.

Earlier in his career, McCollum played for the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Orleans Pelicans.
