Atletico Madrid raced to an early lead in Seville, scoring in just the fourth minute. After a pass from I. Kanin, Alex Baena struck from a tight angle into the far corner to open the scoring.

Host side Sevilla nearly equalized soon after, but Scottish newcomer Robbie Jur's header attempt off a cross was mishit off his shoulder and missed the target.

Second and third goals

Midway through the first half, the visitors extended their lead. In the 26th minute, Pablo Barrios set up Ademola Lookman inside the box, who found the near corner. Shortly after, Baena doubled his tally with a powerful long-range strike, making it 3:0.

Before the break, there was concern over Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who collided with a Sevilla forward and received medical attention on the pitch, but was able to continue.

Second-half developments

After the restart, Baena and Lookman nearly combined for a fourth goal, but it was ruled offside. In the 66th minute, Sevilla's Miguel Sierra scored the club's first goal of the La Liga season, cutting the deficit to 1:3. A later penalty appeal from the hosts was waved off, and the match ended in Atletico's favor.

The result snapped Sevilla's two-match winning streak and handed them their first loss of the season, while lifting Atletico to the top of the standings. Atletico's next match comes on September 5, away against Athletic Bilbao.
