Human remains identified as mother missing since 2019
London detectives have identified human remains as belonging to Joanne Sheen, a mother who went missing in 2019, and have handed the case to Hampshire Police for further investigation.
Detectives in London have confirmed that human remains recently found belong to Joanne Sheen, a mother who disappeared without a trace in 2019. The investigation has now been transferred to Hampshire Police.
Sheen's disappearance originally triggered a major police investigation, which officers described at the time as long and complex.
Family's response
Det Ch Insp Toby Elcock of the Major Crime Team said that although this tragic discovery was not the outcome Joanne's family or investigators had hoped for, identifying her remains could at least offer some answers after years of uncertainty. He noted that throughout the investigation, Joanne's family had shown remarkable strength and dignity while facing unimaginable circumstances, and that the thoughts of the investigating team remain with them during this extremely difficult time.
Ongoing investigation
Elcock said the investigation is continuing, with police committed to determining exactly what happened to Joanne and to holding those responsible accountable. He again appealed to anyone with information about her disappearance to come forward.
The charity Crimestoppers has agreed to reinstate a £20,000 reward for information that helps the investigation.
