Differing Views on Additional Dividend Payment from Latvijas valsts meži

Latvijas valsts meži has paid the planned dividends, but there is currently no legal basis to decide on the additional payment of tens of millions of euros recommended by the State Audit.

The state-owned forest management company AS Latvijas valsts meži (LVM) has made the dividend payment stipulated in the budget. However, the issue of an additional payout, as recommended by the State Audit, is met with differing opinions.

The State Audit has recommended that LVM pay additional dividends in the amount of tens of millions of euros. Such a step, according to the audit authority, would allow the state to gain higher revenues from forest management. Nevertheless, there is currently no legal basis to make a decision on this additional payment. This means that the company's management or shareholders cannot unilaterally decide on extra dividends without an appropriate legal framework.

Discussions on this matter are expected to continue, as various parties have different views on whether and how to proceed. As a state-owned enterprise, LVM is a significant source of income for the state budget, so any decision regarding an increase in dividends is carefully evaluated.
