League-leading pack: "Auda" hosts "Grobiņa" in Sunday's sole Virslīga match
On Sunday, third-placed "Auda" will host eighth-placed "Grobiņa" in the only Latvian Virslīga fixture of the day. "Auda" enters in strong form with a commanding points gap over both the team above and below it.
On Sunday, September 6, at 18:00, Skonto Stadium will host the only Virslīga round 28 match of the day, as "Auda" takes on "Grobiņa". The game will be broadcast live on TV4 and on the Sportacentrs.com portal.
Auda's impressive run
Currently third in the table, "Auda" has not lost a domestic league match since the end of June. Over its last six league games, the team has recorded four wins and two draws. Notably, "Auda" holds the largest points gap from its nearest rivals of any team in this season's competition — 12 points ahead of second-placed "Riga", and 13 points clear of fourth-placed "Liepāja".
Grobiņa's position
Eighth-placed "Grobiņa" snapped a five-match winless streak in late August with a narrow win over "Daugavpils". In the battle to avoid the relegation playoff, the South Kurzeme club is being chased closely by ninth-placed "Tukums 2000", which trails by just one point.
Head-to-head history this season
The two sides have already met four times this season. "Auda" won both of their previous Virslīga encounters, 2:0 and 7:0 respectively, while a June meeting ended goalless at 0:0. In mid-August, the teams also faced off in the Latvian Cup quarterfinal, where "Auda" needed extra time to prevail 3:2.
Elsewhere in the same round, two matches were played on Saturday — "Tukums 2000" defeated "Ogre United" 2:1, while "Jelgava" beat "Super Nova" 1:0. Two further matches are scheduled for Monday: "Riga" against "Daugavpils", and "RFS" against "Liepāja".
