Audi's new A2 E-tron combines low price with record-breaking efficiency
Audi has unveiled the A2 E-tron, a compact electric crossover that pairs an affordable European price with an ultra-low drag coefficient and a range of up to 401 miles. The model will initially be sold only in Europe.
German automaker Audi has introduced the A2 E-tron, a compact electric crossover aimed at buyers who want both an affordable price and strong energy efficiency — two qualities rarely found together in EVs. The car starts at roughly £32,200 in Europe, equivalent to about $45,000.
The A2 E-tron achieves a drag coefficient of 0.24, a new low for Audi. This was accomplished through flush door handles, specially designed air intakes, a fully enclosed underbody, and gap reducers around the wheel arches — all aimed at cutting aerodynamic resistance.
Specifications
Depending on configuration, the A2 E-tron can travel up to 401 miles (645 km) on the European WLTP testing cycle. In its most efficient setup, the car uses just 12.8 kWh per 100 km (62 miles). The vehicle is rear-wheel drive and introduces bidirectional charging for the first time in an Audi — enabling power to flow from the car to external devices through a trunk outlet, or to a home through a compatible charging unit.
Inside, the car features a curved MMI panoramic display combining an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster with a 12.8-inch center touchscreen. It also uses a magnetic Fidlock fastening system, familiar from cycling gear, allowing items like cupholders and charging cable bags to click into designated points throughout the cabin and trunk — a first for a production car, according to Audi.
Market availability
Although Audi abandoned its plan to go fully electric last year, the company continues to expand its EV lineup alongside gasoline and hybrid models. For now, the A2 E-tron will only be sold in Europe, with no confirmed plans for a launch in the United States.
