August storm damaged nearly all tourism sites in Augšdaugava municipality

A powerful storm that swept through Latvia in August has seriously affected the tourism sector in Augšdaugava municipality, damaging most of the region's tourism sites. The storm brought down trees, damaged hiking and nature trails, and caused harm to the roofs of several buildings.

Both local entrepreneurs and municipal officials are still gathering information about the extent of the damage and calculating the financial losses caused by the extreme weather. The full scope of the destruction is not yet known.

Not every site stopped operating

Although the storm affected nearly all tourism locations in the municipality, not all of them were forced to halt operations. Some sites managed to keep welcoming visitors even as the surrounding area lost electricity. Lielborne manor is cited as an example, having continued to function during and after the storm despite power outages in the vicinity.

The event highlighted how important crisis preparedness is for the tourism industry, as weather-related disruptions can affect both infrastructure and businesses' ability to keep operating.
