Supreme Court Overturns Acquittal in Digital TV Case

Latvia’s Supreme Court has overturned the acquittal by Riga Regional Court in the so-called second digital television criminal case, where defendants include former Transport Minister Ainars Šlesers and former Prime Minister Andris Šķēle.

The Supreme Court has annulled the acquittal verdict of the Riga Regional Court in the second criminal case concerning digital television. The case involves several defendants, among them former Transport Minister and current Riga City Council member Ainars Šlesers, as well as former Prime Minister Andris Šķēle.

The ruling means the case will be sent back to the Riga Regional Court for retrial. The Supreme Court’s specific reasoning has not been disclosed yet. The second digital TV case relates to alleged irregularities during Latvia’s transition to digital broadcasting.
