Latvia's Supreme Court has overturned a Riga Regional Court decision in a criminal case in which the defendant had been given a three-year prison sentence. The case has been sent back so that it can be examined again.

The charges concern a crime against peace and the public glorification of war crimes. According to the case, the woman displayed various symbols linked to Russia and the Soviet Union in the windows of her home.

It was reported earlier that the defendant is pro-Kremlin activist Jeļena Kreile.

What the Supreme Court's decision means

The Supreme Court has not issued a final verdict on the defendant's guilt or innocence. It annulled the Riga Regional Court's decision, so the three-year prison sentence handed down earlier is no longer a valid ruling in this case.

The source does not say what reasons led to the annulment or when the case will be heard again.
