Insurance claims from August storm in Latvia already reach 13 million euros

Three weeks after a destructive storm swept across Latvia in August, insurance companies have already received damage claims totaling approximately 13 million euros, according to Latvian Television, citing data from insurers.

The storm caused significant damage to buildings, trees and infrastructure across the country, and the scale of claims filed so far points to the extent of the destruction. Insurers note that the final damage figure is likely to be considerably higher than what has been paid out or approved to date, with total losses potentially measured in tens of millions of euros once all claims are processed.

An unusual record

Among the cases reviewed so far, insurers highlight one considered a record of sorts — seven pine trees fell onto a single house during the storm. Such a concentration of fallen trees affecting one building has reportedly not been seen before in the insurance sector.

Insurers continue to receive and process new claims, meaning the exact total cost of the storm remains unknown for now. A complete picture of the damage is expected only once all submitted and reviewed claims have been compiled.
