Australian Sophie Woods becomes fastest to cross the Alps on foot

Australian runner Sophie Woods has become the fastest person to complete a 2,000-kilometre (1,242-mile) ultramarathon across the Alps. She ran the Via Alpina route, enduring storms, temperatures up to 37°C, and navigating around floods and wildfires in eight countries.

Woods told BBC Breakfast that throughout the entire journey, she focused only on the present moment — the day, the hour, the minute she was in. The previous record stood at 35 days, but Woods finished in just 29. She credited ice cream slushies for helping her keep up her energy along the way.
