The trial of former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon, 31, continued in the New South Wales Supreme Court in Australia, with the defendant returning to the witness box for a second day. He is accused of murdering Jesse Baird and Luke Davies with his police service weapon at Baird's home in Paddington on 19 February 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter. Justice Natalie Adams is presiding, and the case is being heard before a 15-person jury.

Belongings and avoiding contact

Lamarre-Condon told the court that on the day of the alleged murders he wanted to collect his surfboard, clothes and a Cartier ring from Baird's home. He said he did not want to meet Baird because he feared an apprehended violence order (AVO) could be sought against him, and that a visit might be seen as harassment. Baird had asked him to refrain from contacting him.

He said he took his mother's car so he would not be recognised and drove up and down Baird's street looking for his ute. After Baird's housemate left, he parked in the spot she had vacated. He told the jury he had the idea of dressing as an UberEats rider so he could knock on the door without speaking to Baird, or fetch the spare key if Baird was out.

Other evidence

The court heard he signed out his firearm for a shift on 16 February 2024, three days before the alleged murders, with permission. He also described firing his gun in the Royal National Park to test how loud it was, saying he was then thinking of taking his own life. He said his relationship with Baird was not exclusive, and that his mother, a former police officer, had told him it was time to leave the force.

The trial continues.
