Australian Football Star Cristian Volpato Caught Driving Under Influence of Drugs
Australian national team player Cristian Volpato was stopped for speeding in Sydney and later tested positive for cocaine, leading to a six-month driving ban.
Cristian Volpato, a 22-year-old Australian footballer who played three matches in this year's World Cup, was caught driving under the influence of drugs on Friday. According to New South Wales Police, he was stopped on the Anzac Bridge in Sydney for speeding at 109 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A subsequent drug test revealed he had used cocaine.
Interestingly, Volpato had been stopped for speeding just two hours earlier, but no drug test was conducted at that time. No criminal charges will be filed, but his driver's license has been suspended for six months. An investigation into drug use is also underway.
Volpato, a Sydney native, joined the AS Roma academy at age 17 and later played in Serie A. Three years ago, he was transferred to Sassuolo for 7.5 million euros, where he scored two goals in 26 appearances last season. This year, he made his debut for the Australian national team, earning four caps.
