Australian MP Ed Husic taken to hospital after Sydney crash; fractures and concussion
Labor MP Ed Husic was hospitalised after his car collided with a truck and a ute on Sydney's M7 motorway. He has since been discharged with minor abrasions, fractures and a concussion.
Labor MP Ed Husic spent a night in hospital this week after his car was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Sydney's M7 motorway. The accident happened in Dean Park at about 6.20pm on Tuesday as the Chifley MP was driving home from his electorate office, according to a spokesperson.
Paramedics treated Husic at the scene before taking him to Westmead Hospital for assessment. His condition was described as stable. He was released on Wednesday with minor abrasions, fractures and a concussion.
The MP is providing a statement to police about the incident. A spokesperson said that on medical advice, Husic would take a short break from parliamentary duties while he recovers. Husic thanked the doctors, nurses and paramedics at Westmead for their care, and also expressed gratitude to friends and family for their support during his stay.
Photos of the Tesla sedan he was driving show extensive damage to the rear driver's side, with windows and windscreens shattered and airbags deployed. NSW Police said the crash involved a Kenworth B Double truck and a Mazda ute. All three vehicles were towed from the scene on Richmond Road. The 70-year-old man in the ute and the 43-year-old truck driver were uninjured.
Riverstone Police Area Command has begun an investigation into the circumstances. Police have appealed for anyone with information or dashcam and mobile phone footage to contact Riverstone Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
Husic, a former industry minister, is expected to resume his parliamentary duties soon. Parliament in Canberra reopens on Tuesday after the July winter break. His spokesperson said Husic was extremely grateful to have walked away from the accident without more serious injury.
