Victorian MP Moira Deeming has lodged a legal action against the Liberal Party's state president, Brian Loughnane, which was listed to be heard in the state supreme court on Friday morning. The move comes ahead of a state executive meeting scheduled for Friday evening to decide on Deeming's candidacy.

Deeming had previously filed a police complaint against colleague Matthew Guy, alleging that he placed her in a "headlock" at a gala dinner on May 23. Victoria Police investigated the incident and found no offense had been detected, dismissing the complaint last week. Guy has demanded a public apology from Deeming, but she said she misunderstood the "technical meaning of the term 'headlock'" and has refused to apologize.

Deeming has been invited to the state executive meeting to tell her side of the story. Her lawyer stated that the complaint was made "honestly, in good faith and only as a matter of last resort."

In other news, significant snowfall has finally arrived in New South Wales and alpine Victoria, bringing good news for skiers. Additionally, Microsoft has struck a deal with Nine, agreeing to pay the media company for its content, with Nine's journalism playing a "crucial role" in AI outputs for Microsoft's Copilot service.
