Bus crash on Egypt's Red Sea coast kills at least 22
A bus crash on the road between the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in Egypt has left at least 22 people dead and 28 injured. The cause of the accident remains unknown.
Egypt's health ministry has confirmed that at least 22 people died and 28 more were injured in a bus crash on Wednesday morning in the South Sinai governorate, on the road connecting the popular resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba.
According to reports in Egyptian and Jordanian media, as many as 10 of those killed may have been Jordanian nationals, though this has not been officially confirmed. It remains unclear exactly how many passengers were on board at the time of the crash, and authorities have not yet determined what caused it.
The health ministry said all the injured are currently receiving treatment across three separate hospitals. Dahab and Nuweiba are well-known tourist destinations along Egypt's Red Sea coast, drawing visitors from many countries.
A recurring problem
Fatal road accidents are relatively common in Egypt. Authorities recorded nearly 6,000 traffic deaths across the country in 2025 alone, with such crashes frequently attributed to reckless driving and poorly maintained roads.
Just last month, a collision between two lorries in the north-eastern Ismailia governorate killed 18 people and injured 30 others.
