On Sunday in Madrid, the European U-22 beach volleyball championship reached its final stage, where Latvian athletes achieved a historic result. In the men's final, the Latvian duo of Gustavs Auziņš and Kristians Fokerots faced Lithuania's Povilas Piesinas and Dovydas Sinkevičius.

The Latvian pair proved stronger, winning the match 2-0 in sets. They took the first set 21:18 and confirmed their advantage in the second set with a 21:19 score. The victory secured the European U-22 championship title for the Latvian team.

A historic achievement

The final between the Latvian and Lithuanian duos amounted to a Baltic neighbors' showdown for the title of the continent's best young beach volleyball players. This match was part of a broader success story at the tournament, where Latvian beach volleyball pairs reached the final in both the men's and women's competitions.

The gold medal won by Auziņš and Fokerots in the men's event is regarded as a milestone for Latvian beach volleyball, reflecting the progress of the country's younger generation of athletes on the international stage.
