Five injured in Riga tram-truck collision; passenger shares photos from scene
A tram and a truck collided at an intersection in Riga's Imanta district on Monday, injuring five people. A passenger who was on the tram with her daughter posted photos on social media showing the damage.

Several people were injured on Monday when a tram and a truck collided in the Imanta neighborhood of Riga. The accident happened at the intersection of Slokas and Dammes streets, and traffic on the city's No. 1 tram route was halted for hours before being restored.
A woman who was on the tram at the time later shared photographs on Facebook. She said she was riding with her daughter and they were seated directly opposite the point of impact. The images show extensive damage to the tram: several side windows were shattered, glass was scattered across the interior, and the front section and windshield were severely damaged. The truck involved in the crash can also be seen nearby.
Emergency services reported five casualties in the collision. Two of the injured were taken to hospital in moderate condition, according to initial information. Details about the remaining victims have not been disclosed.
Police have not yet determined the exact circumstances. Preliminary findings suggest the truck driver may have failed to give way to the tram, police said. An investigation into the incident is continuing.
