One killed, six injured in crash on Ventspils highway near Straupciems
Six people were injured, one of them fatally, in a traffic accident on the Ventspils highway near Straupciems on Sunday, August 16. A truck and three passenger cars were involved.

A serious traffic accident occurred on the Ventspils highway near Straupciems on Sunday afternoon, leaving six people injured. According to Latvia's Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), one of the injured died at the scene despite paramedics' efforts to save them.
Three of the injured were taken to medical facilities with various injuries, while two others declined hospitalization. Five NMPD teams responded to the scene, including a specialist physician team that is deployed only in critical situations.
Four vehicles involved
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) confirmed that a truck and three passenger cars were involved in the crash. Rescuers used hydraulic tools to free a person trapped in one of the wrecked cars, who was then handed over to medics. Battery terminals were disconnected on the passenger cars as a safety precaution.
One rescuer was also injured while working at the scene but continued their duties after being examined by medics.
Traffic on the Ventspils highway was blocked as a result of the crash, as previously reported by the State Police. The exact circumstances and causes of the accident remain under investigation.
