The Florida Panthers suffered a defeat on Sunday in an NHL regular-season game against the Anaheim Ducks. The contest was tight enough that no winner emerged in regulation time, with the deciding goal coming only in overtime, where Anaheim prevailed.

Two Latvian players currently feature on the Panthers' roster: defenseman Uvis Balinskis and forward Sandis Vilmanis. Both represent the Florida club in the NHL, widely regarded as the world's strongest hockey league.

An overtime loss under NHL rules still earns the losing team a single point in the standings, while the winning side collects the full point total — in this case, Anaheim. Such outcomes are fairly common across an NHL season, as many games are decided only in overtime or a post-game shootout.

Neither Balinskis' nor Vilmanis' individual performance in this particular game was specifically highlighted. Both players continue through the NHL regular season, during which teams compete for playoff positioning.

The Florida Panthers are among the NHL clubs where Latvian players have established themselves in recent years, and their performances are closely followed by hockey fans back in Latvia.
