World Carp Fishing Championship Held at Lake Balotes for Second Time
The World Carp Fishing Championship is taking place at Lake Balotes in Jēkabpils region for the second time, with participants enduring strict conditions over four days.

For the second consecutive year, Lake Balotes in the Jēkabpils region is hosting the World Carp Fishing Championship. The competition features a rigorous regime: anglers spend four days confined to their designated sectors, sleeping only a few hours per day. Even visits to the toilet are only allowed under the escort of judges. This strict structure ensures a fair and level playing field for all participants. The medal winners will be determined this weekend after the four-day event concludes. The championship brings together the world's top carp fishermen, and Lake Balotes has been chosen as the venue for the second time. Organizers hope the event will boost the popularity of fishing sports in Latvia and draw international attention to the region.
