The US presidential administration has formally asked Congress to allocate $87.6 billion for "urgent needs," most of which are related to the US war in Iran. According to BBC and European Pravda, about $67 billion of this amount would go to the US Department of Defense.
Breakdown
The request includes $21 billion for ammunition, $17.3 billion for operational costs, and $12.1 billion for classified programs. Additionally, approximately $300 million is sought to enhance security for US embassies and diplomatic missions in the Middle East and South Asia following attacks on some of them at the start of the conflict.
Possible Opposition
The White House initiative may face resistance in Congress. On the same day, it was reported that House Speaker Mike Johnson does not believe Congress should vote on authorizing the war in Iran. Media also noted that the US president is approaching a decisive crossroads in the war with Iran, with officials seeing only two possible outcomes: achieving a new 10-day ceasefire or launching a joint large-scale military operation with Israel to force Tehran to capitulate.
