Egg producer AS Balticovo has opened a new residential building for its employees, with investments exceeding €2 million. The building contains modern apartments that will house around 120 employees and their families. The opening ceremony was attended by the ministers of welfare and climate and energy, the chairman of Bauska Municipality Council, partners and company staff.

Balticovo’s board chairman Vladimir Mkhitaryan said the housing project is a natural step in the company’s development and an investment in employee well-being. Communications and development director Toms Auškāps noted that alongside production investments, the company is also investing in employees’ quality of life in order to attract specialists from various Latvian regions.

The building was created by reconstructing a structure started in Soviet times but never finished. Pavel Reštņikovs, design director at architecture bureau SEP, explained that this was not an ordinary renovation: staircases had to be redesigned, load-bearing structures assessed and restored, apartment layouts and all engineering systems developed, including ventilation, heating, fire safety and accessibility. The function of the building was changed from dormitory-type to a full apartment building. Gatis Kauliņš, executive director of SEP construction, added that a complete rebuild was carried out, including insulation, new windows and doors, and the surrounding territory was improved with parking, pedestrian paths, bicycle racks, rest areas, greenery and a children’s playground.

Bauska Municipality Council chairman Aivars Mačeks expressed satisfaction that the long-unfinished building has finally been put in order. The new residential building complements Balticovo’s recent investments of more than €150 million in cage-free hen houses and a modern egg sorting centre. The company continues to invest in people to strengthen its position as an employer.

Balticovo is one of the leading food producers in Northern Europe, founded in 1972 and fully owned by Latvian capital. It has also become the first private local-capital company in Latvia to receive financing from the Nordic Investment Bank.
