Balticovo plans €180 million investment in poultry complex in Lithuania
Latvian company Balticovo, through its Lithuanian subsidiary Lit Egg, plans to invest €180 million in farms, egg processing and biomethane production in the Vilkaviškis district, though the project is being held up by permitting issues.

The head of a Lithuanian agricultural sector association, Kauzonas, said after a meeting with Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and industry representatives that an agreement had been reached to explore ways of speeding up a major foreign investment project in the Vilkaviškis district.
According to him, Latvian company Balticovo, which owns Lit Egg — currently one of the largest egg producers in Lithuania — wants to invest €180 million in the region. The funds are planned for farm development, expanding egg processing and packaging capacity, and biomethane production.
Permitting hurdles
Kauzonas noted that there are currently difficulties obtaining the necessary permits under the so-called "green corridor" procedure meant to speed up investment processes. The meeting decided to look for possible solutions to this issue. Both Prime Minister Sinkevičius and Agriculture Minister Kęstutis Mažeika reportedly confirmed the matter would be addressed, since there are investors wanting to expand primary poultry and egg production. The meeting also discussed ideas for ensuring food supply reserves in case of a crisis.
Corporate group and financial results
Balticovo, along with biomethane producer Bovo Gas, is controlled by the Latvian capital group Global Champs. In February this year, the group sold its mushroom business Baltic Champs to Lithuania's Auga Group for €8.46 million.
In 2025, Balticovo's turnover reached €161.5 million, up 44.1% from the previous year, while profit doubled to €35.9 million. The company, founded in 1992, produces chicken eggs, egg powder, liquid egg mass and boiled eggs. Its share capital exceeds €5.37 million. The majority of the company is owned by SIA BCO, whose shares are held by Tatjana Poplavska, Valdis Grimze and Vladimirs Mhitarjans.
