Reconstruction of P87 near Bārbele delayed; contractor seeks cost coverage
The renovation of a section of regional road P87 from Ozolaine to Bārbele may be delayed until mid-November due to technical issues discovered during bridge repairs, and the contractor has requested compensation for increased costs.

Roadworks on the Bauska–Aizkraukle regional road (P87) between Ozolaine and Bārbele are unlikely to be completed by October as originally planned. According to Latvijas Valsts ceļi (LVC), about 40% of the total work has been completed, but unexpected problems arose during the reconstruction of the bridge over the Iecava River.
During demolition of the old bridge deck, it was found that additional design work, re-examination, and approval from the LVC building authority were necessary, causing delays to the entire project. LVC estimates that the deadline may be extended to mid-November.
The contractor, SIA "CBS Igate", has asked the client to cover the cost overrun. LVC states that planned costs have not been exceeded yet, but negotiations on possible compensation are ongoing. The contract value exceeds seven million euros.
Drivers should expect four traffic light sections, a speed limit of 30–70 km/h, and an estimated crossing time of about 40 minutes. The section near Ozolaine is closed to transit traffic, but a local detour is available.
