Barcelona rejects PSG's opening bid for Ferran Torres
Paris Saint-Germain have offered around €40 million for Spain forward Ferran Torres, but Barcelona are demanding a higher fee. Talks between the two clubs continue.
Spanish champions Barcelona have turned down Paris Saint-Germain's opening bid for 26-year-old forward Ferran Torres, reportedly worth around €40 million. The Catalan club is holding out for a higher price for their player.
Torres has already told Barcelona's management of his wish to move to PSG, and personal contract terms with the Paris club have reportedly been agreed. Since his current Barcelona deal runs until 2027, this summer represents the club's last real chance to secure a significant transfer fee for him.
While Barcelona are in principle willing to sell Torres, they are not prepared to accept the first offer on the table. Negotiations between the two clubs are set to continue, and PSG will likely need to raise their bid to reach an agreement.
Torres's role and recent form
After being named top scorer of the World Cup final, where he helped Spain to victory, Torres remains on holiday but is expected back in training this week. Last season he scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Barcelona. Although he began his career as a winger, over the past two seasons he has mainly played as a central striker.
Knock-on effect for Barcelona's transfer plans
Torres's potential departure could also shape Barcelona's other transfer moves. Following Robert Lewandowski's move to Chicago Fire, the club needs a new top-level striker, with Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez remaining their primary target. Barcelona previously offered around €100 million for the Argentine, but Atletico rejected the bid, publicly stating they do not want to lose their leading player. Torres himself has reportedly made clear his desire to join PSG, where he could reunite with coach Luis Enrique.
