Basketball player Sophie Cunningham says she sees a revival of Christian faith around the world. She made the remarks in a conversation with podcast host Theo Von, in which she discussed her beliefs and the role they play in professional sport.

Faith and sport

Cunningham revealed that she grew up in a Catholic family but now thinks of herself more as a Christian who does not belong to any particular denomination, meaning a specific branch of the Christian church. She said her faith in Jesus Christ helps her keep her inner balance in the world of professional sport, where athletes face both criticism and public recognition.

Speaking openly about faith

Cunningham said she was glad that a growing number of public figures and athletes talk openly about their faith and their relationship with Jesus. In her view, it is inspiring to see people who are not afraid to declare their Christian convictions in public.

Baptism as an adult

The basketball player also said she made a personal decision this year to be baptized again. She wanted to take that step consciously, as an adult.

At the end of the conversation, Cunningham reminded listeners that nothing can separate a person from God's love, grace and forgiveness.
