Spanish basketball team Baskonia, which earlier considered signing Latvian players Artūrs Žagars and Rolands Šmits, has announced the signing of 26-year-old guard AJ Lawson.

Lawson previously played in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he appeared in 107 games for the Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Dallas Mavericks. Last season, he split time between the Raptors and their G League affiliate, Raptors 905. In 24 NBA games, he averaged 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game.

In the G League, Lawson had a much larger role, averaging 20.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. His performance earned him a spot on the All-NBA G League Second Team.

In April, the Toronto Raptors converted his two-way contract into a standard NBA contract, but the team opted not to keep him this summer.
