Bauska opens season with two overtime games, Ogre holds off late rally
In the opening round of Latvia's men's floorball first league, newly assembled Bauska needed overtime in both of its matches, while last season's finalist FK Ogre began the new campaign with a win.
The first round of matches has been played in Latvia's men's floorball first league, with newly formed club Bauska and last season's finalist FK Ogre drawing particular attention.
Bauska twice goes to overtime
After being relegated from the Elvi League, Bauska assembled an impressive roster of experienced players but opened the season with mixed results. In its first match away against SK Slampe/Zevid, the team repeatedly trailed on the scoreboard, only equalizing 11 seconds before the end of regulation before winning 13:12 in overtime. In the second match, against Masters Ulbroka, Bauska fell behind 0:4 early but fought back to level the score, only to lose 6:5 after conceding on a penalty shot awarded in overtime.
Ogre and other teams
FK Ogre, which reached last season's final at Xiaomi Arena, opened the new season with a 12:10 win over the young FBK Valmiera/VSS side, although the opponents closed the gap sharply late in the match. Cēsis-based Lekrings/CPSS came back at home against Estonian side Sparta team Automaailm, trailing 0:3 and later 2:5 before winning 8:7. Kuldīga's team beat Baloži 4:3 in a penalty-shot shootout, while Liepāja's Kurši reserve team recorded a convincing 8:3 win over Ķekavas Bulldogs. In an all-Estonian clash, Jõgeva SK Tähe/Olivia thrashed EMU SK 14:4, and newly promoted Aizkraukle/Koknese defeated FK Ulbroka 8:6.
