Bauska Municipality Bans All Parking on Plūdoņa Street Branch Near Primary School

The Bauska municipality has decided to ban all vehicle parking on the Plūdoņa Street branch next to the primary school, citing increased traffic and the need to ensure access for nearby businesses.

A resident named Edgar proposed that the municipality revise parking regulations opposite Plūdoņa Street 29, suggesting that the parking lot be reserved for school staff only during school hours (7:30–16:00) and open to the public at other times. However, simultaneously, the municipality announced that this road section would serve as an access route to a new property at Rīgas Street 28, leading to higher traffic volume. As a result, the local government decided to impose a complete parking ban along the entire Plūdoņa Street branch.

Currently, the area has a parking sign with an additional plate restricting use to school employees. This arrangement creates difficulties: SIA "GEKA," a neighboring company, regularly receives deliveries, and parked school staff cars narrow the roadway, hampering truck maneuvers. The parked vehicles also impede emergency services, municipal vehicles, and snow removal operations.

To address these issues, the municipality will remove the existing parking sign and install four "No Parking" signs along the stretch. The changes are expected to be implemented within two weeks. Drivers are advised to park on nearby streets such as Plūdoņa, Rīgas, and Slimnīcas streets, where parking is not prohibited.

One resident commented on the irony: residents asked for more parking options, but the municipality instead eliminated the existing parking lot.
