Bedrītis and Rinkevičs reach Hamburg "Elite 16" main draw
Latvian beach volleyball duo Bedrītis and Rinkevičs advanced from qualifying to the main draw of the Hamburg Elite 16 event, while Edgars Točs and Gustavs Auziņš were eliminated in the first round of qualification.
Latvian beach volleyball pair Bedrītis and Rinkevičs have secured a spot in the main draw of the Hamburg "Elite 16" tournament. Seeded fifth in qualifying, they opened with a 2-0 (21:11, 21:13) win over the Austrian team of Michael Klemens and Alexander Huber. In the decisive qualifying match, the Latvians beat Germany's Jonas Reinhart and Robin Sowa 2-0 (21:15, 21:16). The main tournament begins on Thursday.
Another Latvian men's duo, Edgars Točs and Gustavs Auziņš, seeded seventh, were eliminated in the first round of qualifying. They lost 1-2 (13:21, 21:12, 16:18) to Niklas Held and Luis Kubo of Germany.
Already in the main draw, Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristians Fokerots will compete after winning last week's Rio de Janeiro "Elite 16" event. In the women's tournament, Tīna Graudiņa and Anastasija Samoilova will take part.
In the Pro Beach Tour ranking, "Elite 16" events are the top tier, followed by "Challenge" and "Futures".
