Fugitive on the Run for 20 Years Captured While Posing as Biotech Executive
A man wanted for two decades, who had been living under false identities and working as a biotech executive, was arrested in New York while sailing on the East River.
Richard Graydon, also known by more than a dozen aliases, was arrested July 16 aboard a 56-foot sailing vessel named The Silver Lining in New York's East River. U.S. Marshals and the Coast Guard took him into custody without incident.
During his time as a fugitive, Graydon was featured on America's Most Wanted and was described by police as a "master yachtsman, a world traveler, and internationally connected." In 2017, he self-published a book titled "The Genetic Risks of Cancer," in which he claimed to be an oncologist.
In October 2022, Seattle-based biotech Atossa Therapeutics announced it had hired Graydon as interim chief medical officer. Then in March 2026, Immix announced his hiring, praising his experience at Merck and Johnson & Johnson, stating he led approvals for top-selling cancer drugs. However, Stat could not verify his credentials, and Immix did not respond to requests for comment.
Following his arrest, Immix terminated Graydon and filed with the SEC, noting that due to his short tenure, there was no material effect on the business.
