Belgian festival cracks 7,200 eggs for giant omelette
Volunteers in Malmedy, Belgium prepared a giant omelette using 7,200 eggs in a four-metre pan over an open fire. The event marked the 30th edition of the town's Giant Omelette Festival.

The town of Malmedy in Belgium hosted its annual Giant Omelette Festival on 15 August, where volunteers cooked an enormous omelette made from 7,200 eggs in a pan measuring four metres across, set over an open fire.
Footage from the event shows the cooking process beginning with bacon sizzling in the pan, followed by the addition of a whisked egg mixture along with herbs and other seasoning. Volunteers used long tools to stir the massive omelette as it cooked.
Once ready, the omelette was cut into portions and served to both local residents and visiting tourists, accompanied by sliced loaves of bread prepared for the occasion.
Organisers confirmed that a total of 7,200 eggs were used to make the dish. The 2026 edition marked the festival's 30th anniversary, continuing a tradition in Malmedy that first began in 1996.
