Belgium to Introduce Road Usage Fee
From May 1, Belgium plans to introduce a vignette for driving on highways, with the fee depending on vehicle CO2 emissions.

The Belgian government intends to introduce a mandatory fee for using highways and regional roads, which will apply to both foreigners and citizens. According to the Belga News agency, as reported by European Pravda, the system is expected to come into effect on May 1 after the three autonomous regions—Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels—reach a final agreement on the changes. The only remaining point for discussion concerns the distribution of costs, and the system is expected to be presented soon.
The fee amount will depend on the vehicle's CO2 emissions. For zero-emission vehicles, the annual vignette will cost €90, while for the most polluting vehicles it will be €125. Owners of cars that meet at least the Euro 4 emission standard will pay €100. The vignette will also be available for purchase for one day, ten days, one month, or two months.
