Belohvoščiks finishes 50th in first stage of British cycling race
Britain's Luis Askey won the opening stage of a five-stage cycling race in the UK, while Latvian rider Belohvoščiks placed 50th, three minutes and 30 seconds behind the winner.
The first of five stages of a multi-day cycling race in Great Britain covered 182.5 kilometres, featuring two first-category and two second-category climbs.
Breaking away for the final kilometre of the stage, British rider Luis Askey of team NSN took the win, crossing the finish line in four hours, two minutes and 44 seconds. Second and third places went to Italy's Filippo Ganna of Netcompany INEOS and Belgium's Tim Wellens of UAE Team Emirates - XRG, both finishing two seconds behind the winner.
Bike Aid rider Belohvoščiks placed 50th in the stage, finishing three minutes and 30 seconds behind the winner.
The five-stage race will conclude on Sunday.
