Bergmanis admits he does not know his children's phone numbers by heart
Raimonds Bergmanis said in the nra.lv TV studio, while discussing personal responsibility for safety, that he knows only his wife's phone number by heart and not his children's.
Raimonds Bergmanis has admitted in the television studio of the news portal nra.lv that the only phone number he knows by heart is his wife's, and that he has not memorised his children's numbers. The admission came during a conversation about how much individual actions matter for safety.
The admission
"Honestly, it is not good for me to say this, but I know only my wife's phone number by heart. I do not know my children's numbers," Bergmanis said. He did not hide that there are still gaps in his knowledge of his closest relatives' numbers.
Safety begins with everyday conduct
The remark came as Bergmanis was explaining what a comprehensive national defence system means. In his view, its essence can be put in one sentence: every person acting responsibly with regard to safety.
To illustrate, he gave very ordinary examples. People act responsibly when they turn off the gas, do not drive while intoxicated and even tie their shoelaces so they do not fall. Bergmanis stressed that such conduct is needed both at the workplace and at home.
When he came to his own example, he showed that even where responsibility toward family is concerned, not everything is in place: he does not know his children's phone numbers by heart.
