A fire broke out at a nursing home in Berlin's Kreuzberg district, killing one person. According to a fire service spokesperson, 25 residents of the facility were also injured, one of them seriously.
All residents of the facility have already been evacuated from the building and are currently being monitored by medical staff. The fire service stated that the blaze has been brought under control.
Large-scale rescue operation
According to the fire service, almost 160 emergency workers were deployed at the scene at the height of the operation. Officials described the incident as a mass-casualty emergency.
The cause of the fire remains unknown for now.
