German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also attended the memorial, laying flowers in tribute. Nearby, workers dismantled festival stages and cleared rubbish from the area after celebrations were cut short. The attack left one woman dead and 29 others injured. Prosecutors said the suspect, who was shot dead by police, had supported the so-called Islamic State group.
