Berlin CSD attack: Latest in string of deadly vehicle attacks
A car rammed into a Christopher Street Day event in Berlin on Saturday night, killing one and injuring 16. The 21-year-old suspect, Abdul B., is linked to the Islamist scene. This is the latest in a series of vehicle attacks over the past decade.
Berlin attack
On the night of July 25, 2026, a vehicle attacked a Christopher Street Day (CSD) event in Berlin. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Abdul B., fled after driving into the crowd, resulting in one death and 16 injuries. Police said he was associated with the Islamist scene in Berlin.
Prior attacks in Germany
This incident is the latest in a series of deadly vehicle attacks in Germany and worldwide. In early May 2026, a car drove into a crowd in Leipzig, killing two and injuring 20. The 33-year-old German suspect was known to police but not for related offenses. In March 2025, at least two people died in Mannheim when a motorist intentionally drove into a crowd. The 40-year-old German suspect had a fine for a hate crime comment but no political motive was established. In February 2025, a 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed in Munich when a car hit a Verdi union demonstration. The 25-year-old Afghan suspect was tried for murder and attempted murder.
Further back, in December 2024, a 50-year-old Saudi doctor drove a rented SUV into a Christmas market in Magdeburg, killing at least six and injuring over 300. He expressed anti-Muslim views and support for the far-right AfD. In June 2026, he received a life sentence. In November 2024, a 62-year-old driver rammed a SUV into a sports complex in southern China, killing 38—the country's deadliest mass homicide in years. The perpetrator was executed in January 2025.
Global context
Internationally, on January 1, 2025, a vehicle plowed into New Year's revelers in New Orleans, killing 14. The driver and two officers died in a subsequent firefight; the FBI investigated it as terrorism.
