Bearman denies rumours of possible move to Aston Martin
F1 driver Oliver Bearman has dismissed speculation about a switch to Aston Martin, stressing his loyalty to Ferrari and his ambition to one day drive for the team.
The 21-year-old British driver addressed his future in Formula 1 during an appearance on the "F1 Beyond The Grid" podcast, denying rumours that he could move to Aston Martin.
The speculation arose because Bearman's path to a race seat with the Ferrari works team is currently difficult, given the strong performances of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. This has fuelled talk that the young driver could instead move to another team, including Aston Martin, should Fernando Alonso decide to leave the Silverstone-based outfit.
Loyalty to Ferrari
Bearman rejected these suggestions, emphasising his gratitude toward the Italian manufacturer. He said Ferrari has supported him since he joined its junior programme in Formula 3, and that he owes his current position in F1 to the team. He described Ferrari as his dream team, citing not only his personal connection to it but also its status as one of the most iconic brands in the world. He added that his goal remains to become a Ferrari race driver one day.
Asked about Aston Martin, Bearman acknowledged the team is currently going through a difficult period, but said he believes it will become extremely strong in the future. At the same time, he made clear that he is not currently looking in that team's direction.
Bearman is presently 13th in the drivers' championship standings with 18 points, comfortably ahead of his more experienced teammate Esteban Ocon, while Haas sits seventh in the constructors' championship.
