Best Buy hikes Asus RTX 5080 price above RTX 5090 MSRP

Best Buy has raised the price of the Asus ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC to $2,099, exceeding the $1,999 MSRP of the RTX 5090. This marks the first time a major US retailer is directly selling an RTX 5080 for more than the flagship's official price.

Best Buy has significantly increased the price of the Asus ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC graphics card to $2,099. That amount is $100 higher than the RTX 5090's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,999, according to VideoCardz. This is the first instance of a major US retailer directly selling an RTX 5080 at a price exceeding that of the more powerful model's official price.

Compared to its initial price, the RTX 5080 OC model now costs 40 percent more than its launch price of $1,499. Furthermore, its price is more than double the $999 MSRP of the RTX 5080 Founders Edition.

As VideoCardz notes, this is the only RTX 5080 card directly sold by Best Buy that is priced above the RTX 5090's MSRP. Other RTX 5080 models are still available for significantly less, including at other retailers. For example, Asus itself sells the ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC for $1,899, which is still above its launch price but lower than Best Buy.

However, component shortages and RAM price hikes show no signs of slowing down, so more RTX 5080 GPUs could see similar price increases. Best Buy's price hike follows reports that Nvidia plans to increase its GPU prices by 20 to 30 percent, its third such increase this year. With RAM and other component prices rising, we've even seen the return of GPUs with 4GB of VRAM, such as the ASRock AMD Radeon RX 9050 Challenger.
