Buyers of 'Woke-Free' Beer in the US Are Still Waiting for Orders and Refunds

Customers of Ultra Right Beer, a brand pitched to US conservatives during the 2023 Bud Light boycott, say they still have received neither beer nor refunds. The Georgia attorney general's office has opened an investigation into the company.

Ultra Right Beer LLC, a US company marketed in 2023 as a conservative alternative to Bud Light, has still not fulfilled some customer orders. Buyers say they received neither the beer nor their money back, and the Georgia attorney general's office has opened an investigation into the firm.

How it began

In April 2023, anger spread among right-wing audiences over a sponsored Instagram post in which Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender actress and singer, showed a Bud Light can bearing her face. Bud Light is owned by Anheuser-Busch. Some conservatives vowed to boycott the brand. Seth Weathers, a Georgia political consultant who briefly led Donald Trump's 2015 presidential campaign in the state, launched Ultra Right Beer under his "Conservative Dad" brand.

Right-wing media sent customers to the website even though no brewery had yet been found. Within two weeks Weathers partnered with Big Kettle Brewing of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and claimed nearly $1 million in sales of six-packs priced at $19.99.

Complaints and investigation

Deliveries lagged. The Better Business Bureau gave the company an "F" rating, noting it had not responded to nearly 200 complaints. Many complaints concern the "Fight" edition, featuring an image of Trump after a July 2024 campaign rally assassination attempt. Weathers claimed in August 2024 that its sales reached $1 million. A Facebook group of people still waiting has about 400 members.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr's office is investigating the company, which court filings say has not responded to compliance orders. Weathers did not respond to a request for comment. In 2024, Anheuser-Busch filed a trademark opposition, citing similarity to its Michelob Ultra beer; that litigation is ongoing. Buyers Rich Alan and Paul Roberts say they want accountability and enforcement of the law.
