Former MEP Tunne Kelam and his wife injured in car accident in Viimsi
On Sunday, former Estonian and European Parliament member Tunne Kelam and his wife were involved in a car accident in Viimsi parish, requiring rescuers to cut the vehicle to free them.

On Sunday afternoon, former Riigikogu and European Parliament member Tunne-Väldo Kelam, along with his wife Mari-Ann, members of the Isamaa party, were involved in a traffic accident in Viimsi parish. Rescuers had to cut the car to evacuate them.
According to the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, the accident in Püünsi village was reported at 3:04 PM. The Subaru vehicle went off the road and ended up in thick bushes. The occupants could not exit on their own, and rescuers cleared the bushes and cut the car, reported Rus.Delfi news portal.
The 89-year-old Kelam stated that fatigue caused the accident — the family was returning from Haapsalu. "I got drowsy, and we drove into the bushes. There were also stones," he said.
The couple was taken to the hospital for examination. Police confirmed the driver was sober. Kelam said they sustained no serious injuries: "Nothing is broken. This is the first accident in 30 years."
