Urmas Sukles, the former mayor of Haapsalu who previously spent about 18 years as a member of the Reform Party, announced on Tuesday, June 16, through the Centre Party's press service that he is joining the party and plans to run on its list in the next parliamentary elections.

Sukles stated that the Centre Party is one of the key political forces in the country, focused on the well-being of residents, economic development, and security issues. After reflecting on his future path, he decided to continue his political career and participate in national politics.

As of the time of the news report, the commercial register had not confirmed that Sukles had become a party member.

The chairman of the Centre Party noted that Sukles' membership will strengthen the party's position in Läänemaa. He highlighted that the politician's experience of leading Haapsalu for about 25 years gives him a strong understanding of local government and regional issues.

In 2015, Sukles ran for the Riigikogu on the Reform Party list but did not secure a seat. He was a member of the Reform Party from 1999 to 2017.

In the fall of 2025, after losing the mayoral position he held for 25 years, Sukles criticized the Reform Party and did not rule out joining the Centre Party.
